Sunday Bulletin – November 25, 2018

Welcome to all our parishioners and visitors this Sunday! We hope you find us a warm and welcoming place. If you are visiting us, please introduce yourself to the rector.

Prosphora – This Sunday and following, we will begin the custom of commemorating individual prosphora that you can obtain from the desk.  Under each of the prosphora, a slip of paper with numbered lines will be available so you can write down the names of the living and your beloved deceased. Then, the prosphora and the names will be brought to the altar and the priest will take a particle out of the bread and commemorate the names you have written down. The server will then return the prosphora to the desk so you can take it with you. It is customary to leave a $1 donation for your prosphora.

Basket Collection for Chico Fires –  I am so overwhelmed by your generosity! Last weekend Rob collected $699 in the basket for fire relief.  May God reward your kindness!

Canned Food Collection – Paper shopping bags with St. Michael’s label are available today for cans of food that will be directed to the Shelters for the people of Chico and Paradise. Put in as much as you wish; even 1 or 2 cans. Every can helps! Please bring them to the hall next by December 9th when we will remember St. Nicholas.

St. Nicholas Day – We will be celebrating the Feast of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on Sunday, December 9. There will be a special visitor for the children!

Sunday School – Beginning Next Sunday the children will be brought to the hall during the Divine Liturgy for instruction in the Orthodox Faith and Practice. The lesson will begin after the Small Entrance and last 20 minutes. Then the children come back into the Temple for Holy Communion.

Words of Holy Men and Women – Protopresbyter Alexander Schmemann, final sermon
Thank You, O Lord, for having accepted this Eucharist, which we offered to the Holy Trinity, Father, Son
and Holy Spirit, and which filled our hearts with the joy, peace and righteousness of the Holy Spirit. Thank You, O Lord, for having revealed Yourself unto us and given us the foretaste of Your Kingdom.
Thank You, O Lord, for having united us to one another in serving You and Your Holy Church. Thank You, O Lord, for having helped us to overcome all difficulties, tensions, passions, temptations and restored peace, mutual love and joy in sharing the communion of the Holy Spirit. Thank You, O Lord, for having given us this country where we are free to worship You. Thank You, O Lord, for this school, where the name of God is proclaimed. Thank You, O Lord, for our families: husbands, wives and, especially, children who teach us how to celebrate Your holy Name in joy, movement and holy noise.
Thank You, O Lord, for everyone and everything. Great are You, O Lord, and marvelous are Your deeds, and no word is sufficient to celebrate Your miracles. Lord, it is good to be here! Amen!

Prayer of St. Basil the Great
Lord Christ our God, King of the ages and Creator of all, I thank Thee for all the blessings Thou hast granted me and for the communion of Thy pure and life-giving Mysteries. I pray Thee, therefore, good Lord and Lover of men, guard me under Thy protection and within the shadow of Thy wings; and grant me with a clear conscience till my last breath worthily to partake of Thy holy Things for forgiveness of sins and for life eternal. For Thou art the Bread of Life, the Source of Holiness, the Giver of all that is good, and to Thee we send up the glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.
